New Baby Boy card.

Hello again everyone!



Another busy day again. I had promised the girls at work I would make a new baby card for one of our girls who has just had a baby boy. Congratulations, Nicola!

So, I spent most of today resizing and editing some papers from the Lilac Garden (http://thelilacgardendecoupagesite.co.uk/) and from an old issue from Crafts Beautiful for this card. It is quite a big card, the card blanks measuring 34x24 cm. Below you can find some of the papers used and several images of the card.

Here is a picture of the outside of the card. I printed off 3 copies of the backing paper from Crafts Beautiful and cut out 3 different layers for decoupage for the added 3D effect. On top of it are 2 stamps 'It's a boy!' and 'Congratulations' with of course at the back of the card a 'Handmade by' stamped image. As you can possibly already see it is another of the pop out cards.

Next is the first view of the inside of the card. I have left a lot of clear space around the decoupaged spinning image and background paper for people to add their own wishes.

I hope you also like this new card. I am quite pleased with it and hope the girls at work are also pleased with it as well as the new mum liking it as well. Most of the day has gone into making this card (at least in between the shopping and school rounds).

A tricky swivel card.

Good evening everyone!

Here is my latest card, one I made this morning, with some preparations yesterday, for a class mate of my youngest son. My 'instructions' were to make a card for a 6-year old boy who loves racing and cars. I had the good luck to find this picture below on the BBC website yesterday and thought it would be ideal for a racing fan.

I had also noticed the below image on Monica's 3D sheets at http://www.3dsheets.tripod.com/ and just made it to a A4 sheet with a flipped image on the right side of the picture. This to ensure there would be a front and back side to a flipping image.

I also edited the background that came with this sheet to fit A4 in landscape and printed 2 sheets of this off, one for the outside of the card and one for the inside of the card.

I built up the 3D images and you can see both of them below.

And here are some images of the finished swivel card. The first one is the view from the front. As you can see I have used the same principle as in previous cards on my blog (the get well card and the second tiger birthday card) for the front of the card.

However, to make this card a bit more interesting, I also used the other principle and added a spinning car image to the inside of the car.

Add some stamps, some peel offs and your card is ready to be addressed and sent off.

I hope you like the new card, I certainly did enjoy making it.

Party invitations

Wishing you all a very good Sunday! My Sunday has been quite productive. I have spent most of my day making 8 party invites for my daughter. Her birthday party will be due in a few weeks. Below you can find several images of the cards and also the instructions on how to make them. I hope you enjoy them and the instructions are helpful to those of you who would like to try a swinging card like this as well.

Underneath you can see two photos, the first shows the inside and front view of the cards.

The second one shows the full collection of 8 cards. I had quite a production line going this afternoon.

This is the main image I used, a little bear swimming. I printed off some small images for the front of the card and some bigger ones for the inside of the card.

Underneath you can see the background paper I used.

This is the background paper I used for the inside of the card. I printed it off on both sides of white card (2 on each A4 piece) to fit the A5 card.

This was the image used for the spinning part of the card. It was cut out using the second largest of the classic scalloped edged large nestibilities. Some cards were also cut with this using the above background and featuring the details for the party. This was stuck to the back of the below image with double sided sticky tape and some cotton thread in between.

To allow the card above to spin freely an aperture was cut out using the largest size of this set of nestibilities.

This card was then folded as shown below, a hill fold in the middle and 2 valley folds on each side of this in the middle of the remaining card.

This was then turned over and the image stuck to the card with some more double sided sticky tape. Double sided sticky tape was also attached to the 2 outside panels of the card.

Time for the outside card, for this I used some lilac A5 card.

Next the background paper was stuck to the front of the card with double sided sticky tape.

Then the image (smaller of the 2 printed) was attached to that with double sided sticky tape.

Blue card for Funky Fairies blue challenge

Good evening all, above you can see a quick-ish card I did last night for the blue challenge at Funky Fairies challenge blog.

Quick-ish card as I already had the decoupage picture (from the Lilac Garden at http://thelilacgardendecoupagesite.co.uk/) cut out and assembled at an earlier stage. I therefore only needed to draw, cut and fold the spring card template.



For those interested in the template, below is a template I do myself with the measurements. Basically it is a rectangle measuring 7.5 cm high by 15 cm wide. On top of this a 15 by 15 cm square. And on top of that a triangle 10.5 cm sides on a 15 cm base as shown below.





Cut out it looks like the picture below.

Next it needs some folding to get the template in its right shape. Fold along the line of the rectangle, this will be the base of the card. Next fold the square along a line from opposite corners. Also fold along a line horizontally down the middle of the square. The top part of the card will now be a 10.5 cm sided square. See also the picture below.

Then cut a recatngular piece of paper to decorate the base measuring 14.5 by 7 cm (thus leaving an edge of the base card all around) I have used Doodlementals paper 2 for this from Funky Fairies, resized to fit this card.

Stick this to the base with double sided sticky tape. It then looks like below.

Next cut out a 10 by 10 cm of other paper to decorate the square at the top of the card. For this I have used Funky Fairies Doodlementals paper 12, resized to fit this square. Again attach to the square with double sided sticky tape. It then looks like this:

Next add another square of card measuring 10 by 10 cm and put this on the other square like shown underneath. For this one I have used Funky Fairies blue Christmas paper j, the one with the flowery back ground.

The next step is to add the decoupaged image, this one is the 'Rock Chick' from the Lilac Garden.

It will then look like this:

Following this it is time to put the card together. Put double sided sticky tape to the bottom triangle formed by the pre-folded square and attach this to the base of the card. The spring card will now be able to stand up as shown below.

For extra decoration add some peel off corner decoration and a sentiment 'Happy Birthday' on this card.

As the previous photos were taking with artificial light, I have added 2 more photos with day light as taken this afternoon.

I hope you like the card, I must admit it looks a lot better than I thought it would. I also hope the instructions have been helpful to those who would like to try a spring card themselves, it is really quite easy to do.

Instructions requested for earlier made cards.

Good evening all. this time not a card, but the instructions for the use of some templates that I used as a basis for making some of the birthday cards and the get well card I put on this blog already.




One of my friends on trimcraft requested some further written instructions for the swinging concertina card I had made (the second tiger birthday card on my blog http://trimgym.blogspot.com/2009/02/february-birthdays.html the same that also was used for the get well card http://trimgym.blogspot.com/2009/02/get-well-card-for-my-mother.html).



The template I used for both cards I found at http://www.timeforcrafting.co.uk/, but it was adapted for the purpose as one needed a square and the other a cat shaped window rather than the arch and oval avialble on that site. This site is however definitely worth a visit as it has many templates and ideas of use for card makers as well as some sayings and verses.


The first thing you need is an image that you would like to decorate the card with and to feature in the swinging window. If this is something that would look best on the arch then use this template as a basis.



Either cut out an arch shape or cut out the image layered onto card (square for my tiger card and cat shaped for the cat).

Next find a card to form the inside of the card. Transfer the template below onto the card, cut along the continuous lines and score along the dashed line. You will need to make valley folds for the 2 outside lines (make sure also to fold the window) and you will need to make a hill fold for the middle line.

The template below is how it will look on your work table when you put any backing paper or decoration on for the inside.

Next cut out the outer part of the card using the template below, again cutting along the continuous lines (so, remove the window) and folding along the dashed line. This time a valley fold again. the image below is as it is seen from the inside of the card.

The next step is to attach both cards to eachother.

To do this you will need to apply double sided sticky tape (or use a sticky tape roller) on the back of the inside card featured above (so turn over the view seen here) only on the pieces I have marked on here as A and D above and attach to the inside of the outer card.

Now attach any backing paper to inside and or outside of the card, attach the image to the flap in the window and you will have a working swinging concertina card.
